Talking to a stranger at the store, wearing a “Vietnam Veteran” hat.
“Hello, you were in Vietnam?” I asked.
“yes, 1968-70. They didn’t want to win the war. So I got out.
“THey had the draft then? Did you get drafted to . . .” I asked.
“No, I joined the Army, yes.”
“Really, they didn’t want to win the war, just drag it on?” I asked.
“Yes, just buy more equipment, for the government, and that, it gets the politicians get re-elected. They didn’t want the war to end.” he says.
